Everyone's life is driven by something. 每个人都由某物主导他的人生。

Most dictionaries define the verb drive as "to guide, to control, or to direct." Whether you are driving a car, a nail, or a golf ball, you are guiding, controlling, and directing it at that moment. What is the driving force in your life?

Right now you may be driven by a problem, a pressure, or a deadline. You may be driven by a painful memory, a haunting fear, or an unconscious belief. Many people are driven by guilt. 被罪咎驾驭的人

They spend their entire lives running from regrets and hiding their shame. Guilt-driven people are manipulated by memories. They allow their past to control their future. They often unconsciously punish themselves by sabotaging their own success. When Cain sinned, his guilt disconnected him from God's presence, and God said, "You will be a restless wanderer on the earth” That describes most people today-wandering through life without a purpose.

We are products of our past, but we don't have to be prisoners of it. God's purpose is not
limited by your past. He turned a murderer named Moses into a leader and a coward named
Gideon into a courageous hero, and he can do amazing things with the rest of your life, too. God specializes in giving people a fresh start. The Bible says, "What happiness for those whose guilt has been forgiven! ... What relief for those who have confessed their sins and God has cleared their record."

Many people are driven by resentment and anger. 被忿恨驾驭的人

They hold on to hurts and never get over them. Instead of releasing their pain through forgiveness, they rehearse it over and over in their minds. Some resentment-driven people "clam up" and internalize their anger, while others "blow up" and explode it onto others. Both responses are unhealthy and unhelpful. 这些人紧抓着所受的伤害，不愿赦免。他们不愿藉着饶恕解除痛苦，反而在心底不断重复回想。被忿恨驾驭的人，有的把怒气压抑在心底，有的发泄出来迁恕他人，二者都既不健康又无济于事。


Resentment always hurts you more than it does the person you resent. While your offender has
probably forgotten the offense and gone on with life, you continue to stew in your pain, perpetuating the past. Listen: Those who have hurt you in the past cannot continue to hurt you now unless you hold on to the pain through resentment. Your past is past! Nothing will change it. You are only hurting yourself with your bitterness. For your own sake, learn from it, and then let it go. The Bible says, "To worry yourself to death with resentment would be a foolish, senseless thing to do." 其实忿恨对你所造成的伤害，远比对你所忿恨的人伤害为大，当你不断为过往的伤害困扰煎熬之际，得罪你的人可能早已将这件事忘得一干二净，继续过他的日子了。请记住，过去的伤痛无法再继续伤害你，除非你仍不肯把它放开。过去的已经过去了，无法改变，忿恨苦毒只不过是自己伤害自己。为你自己的缘故，不如就把这件事当作一次教训便算了,圣经说：“终身怀恨是既愚昧又无聊的事。


Many people are driven by fear. 被恐惧驾驭的人

Their fears may be a result of a traumatic experience, unrealistic expectations, growing up in a high-control home, or even genetic predisposition. Regardless of the cause, fear-driven people often miss great opportunities because they're afraid to venture out. Instead they play it safe, avoiding risks and trying to maintain the status quo. 恐惧可能来自伤痛的经历，不切实际的期望、严厉的原生家庭、或甚至是天生如此。不管原因，被恐惧驾驭的人往往因怕冒险而坐失良机。他们但求保持现状，安全第一而不愿冒任何风险。

Fear is a self-imposed prison that will keep you from becoming what God intends for you to
be. You must move against it with the weapons of faith and love. The Bible says, "Well formed
love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life fear of death, fear of judgment-is one not
yet fully formed in love."

Many people are driven by materialism. 被物质享受驾驭的人

Their desire to acquire becomes the whole goal of their lives. This drive to always want more is based on the misconceptions that having more will make me more happy, more important, and more secure, but all three ideas are untrue. Possessions only provide temporary happiness. The most common myth about money is that having more will make me more secure. It won't.
Wealth can be lost instantly through a variety of uncontrollable factors. Real security can only be found in that which can never be taken from you-your relationship with God. 最普遍的迷思是认为愈有钱便愈安全，其实不然。财富可能一夕之间便因各种不同因素而失去。真正的安全感只存在于无法从你夺去的事上，那就是你与神的关系

Many people are driven by the need for approval. 被别人的期望驾驭的人
They allow the expectations of parents or spouses or children or teachers or friends to control their lives. Many adults are still trying to earn the approval of unpleasable parents. Others are driven by peer pressure, always worried by what others might think. I don't know all the keys to success, but one key to failure is to try to please everyone. Being
controlled by the opinions of others is a guaranteed way to miss God's purposes for your life.

There are other forces that can drive your life but all lead to the same dead end: unused

We were made to have meaning. This is why people try dubious methods, like astrology or psychics, to discover it. When life has meaning, you can bear almost anything; without it, nothing is bearable. 我们存在是有意义的，因此有些人用各种方法，如星象或通灵等去寻求这些意义。人生有了意义，就可以忍受任何事。人生若无意义，任何事都会叫人难以忍受。


A young man in his twenties wrote, "I feel like a failure because I'm struggling to become

life has no significance or hope. In the Bible, many different people expressed this hopelessness. Isaiah complained, "I have labored to no purpose; I have spent my strength in pain and for nothing." Job said, "My life drags by-day after hopeless day" and "I give up; I am tired of living. Leave me alone. My life makes no sense." found he could predict which of his cancer patients would go into remission by asking, "Do you

It defines what you do and what you don't do. Your purpose becomes the standard you use to evaluate which activities are essential and which aren't. You simply ask, "Does this activity help me fulfill one of God's purposes for my life?" 人生目的能帮助你划分你该做和不该做的事，也成了你衡量取舍的准则。你只需自问：“这事会帮助我完成神在我人生的目的吗？"
Without a clear purpose you have no foundation on which you base decisions, allocate your
time, and use your resources. You will tend to make choices based on circumstances, pressures, and your mood at that moment. People who don't know their purpose try to do too much-and that causes stress, fatigue, and conflict. 当你需作决定，安排时间或运用资源时，若没有明确目的就没有准则。你会因当时情况、压力或当时心境来决定。没有目的的人会工作过量而疲于奔命，引致不必要的压力、疲乏与冲突。

It is impossible to do everything people want you to do. You have just enough time to do God's
will. If you can't get it all done, it means you're trying to do more than God intended for you to do (or, possibly, that you're watching too much television). Purpose-driven living leads to a simpler lifestyle and a saner schedule. The Bible says, "A pretentious, showy life is an empty life; a plain and simple life is a full life.” It also leads to peace of mind: "You, LORD, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you.” 你不可能做到别人要求你做的每一件事，你只有足够时间去行神的旨意。如果你无法完成一切，便意味着你想做多过神你去做的(或者，有可能是你电视看太多了)。目的导向的人生会导致更简单的生活形态以及更简明的行程表。圣经说：“虚假炫耀，却是贫乏可怜，简朴清淡，却有丰盛生命。”目的导向的人生会带来心境平和。”上主啊，你把完全的平安赐给意志坚强的人，赐给信靠你的人。”

It concentrates your effort and energy on what's important. You become effective by being selective. 人生有目的，你就会集中精力在最要紧的事上，办事就有果效。
It's human nature to get distracted by minor issues. We play Trivial Pursuit with our lives.
Henry David Thoreau observed that people live lives of "quiet desperation," but today a better
description is aimless distraction. Many people are like gyroscopes, spinning around at a frantic
pace but never going anywhere. 人的天性很容易被琐碎的事分心。我们以自己的人生来玩追逐琐碎事务的游戏。梭罗观察发现，人们过着一个"安静的绝望"的人生，今天，更好的描述则是"无目标的骚动"。许多人就像陀螺，毫无目的不停地以高速转动，但始终留在原地，毫无进步。Without a clear purpose, you will keep changing directions, jobs, relationships, churches, or
other externals-hoping each change will settle the confusion or fill the emptiness in your heart.
You think, Maybe this time it will be different, but it doesn't solve your real problem-a lack of

The Bible says, "Don't live carelessly, unthinkingly. Make sure you understand what the

The power of focusing can be seen in light. Diffused light has little power or impact, but you
can concentrate its energy by focusing it. With a magnifying glass, the rays of the sun can be
focused to set grass or paper on fire. When light is focused even more as a laser beam, it can cut through steel. 我们可以从光学中看到焦点的重要。分散的光只有极少的能力和作用，但把它们凝聚起来却可以形成巨大的能源。用一面放大镜可以凝聚太阳光，而点燃和纸张。当光被集中成为雷射线时，连钢铁都能穿透切断。


There is nothing quite as potent as a focused life, one lived on purpose. The men and women
who have made the greatest difference in history were the most focused. For instance, the apostlePaul almost single-handedly spread Christianity throughout the Roman Empire. His secret was a focused life. If you want your life to have impact, focus it! Stop dabbling. Stop trying to do it all. Do less.
Prune away even good activities and do only that which matters most. Never confuse activity

Purpose always produces passion. Nothing energizes like a clear purpose. On the other hand, passion dissipates when you lack a purpose. Just getting out of bed becomes a major chore. It is usually meaningless work, not overwork, that wears us down, saps our strength, and robs our joy. 目的往往会带来热忱，没有任何东西比清晰的目的更有动力。反之，缺乏目的的人，不会有热忱，对他来说，就算是起床这样简单的事，也是一件大事。我们疲累、乏力和失去喜乐，常常是由于一些无意义的工作，而非因工作过劳。

Many people spend their lives trying to create a lasting legacy on earth. They want to be remembered when they're gone. Yet, what ultimately matters most will not be what others say about your life but what God says. What people fail to realize is that all achievements are eventually surpassed, records are broken, reputations fade, and tributes are forgotten. In college, James Dobson's goal was to become the school's tennis champion. He felt proud when his trophy was prominently placed in the school's trophy cabinet. Years later, someone mailed him that trophy. They had found it in a trashcan when the school was remodeled. Jim said, "Given enough time, all your trophies will be trashed by someone else!" 许多人穷毕生之力要在世上名留千古，希望死后仍然被人所怀念。但至终最重要的却不是他人对你的看法，而是神对你的看法。人们往往没有领悟到，所有的成就最终都会被超越，纪录会被打破、名声会褪色、贡献会被遗忘。杜布森博士在大学读书时的志愿是要当学校的网球冠军。当他的奖杯被永久放在学校的奖杯陈列柜时，他觉得非常自豪。多年之后，有人把奖杯邮寄给他，并告诉他那是他们在学校装修时从垃圾箱里找到的！杜布森说：“不久之后，所有奖杯都会被人当废物丢弃。”


Living to create an earthly legacy is a short-sighted goal. A wiser use of time is to build an
eternal legacy. You weren't put on earth to be remembered. You were put here to prepare for
eternity. One day you will stand before God, and he will do an audit of your life, a final exam, before you enter eternity. The Bible says, "Remember, each of us will stand personally before the judgment seat of God.... Yes, each of us will have to give a personal account to God."
Fortunately, God wants us to pass this test, so he has given us the questions in advance. From the Bible we can surmise that God will ask us two crucial questions: 在世上留下遗产是短视的，智者会花时间去建立不能朽坏、永恒的基业。你生存在世上不是为了要人记念，而是为永恒作准备。终有一天，你会站在神的面前，在你进入永恒之前，他要查核你的一生。圣经说：“我们都要站在神的审判台前．．．．．这样看来，我们各人都要把自己的事向神交代。”庆幸的是，神原希望我们通过这个考试，因此他把试题预先给了我们。根据圣经，神会问两个重要的考题。


First, "What did you do with my Son, Jesus Christ?" God won't ask about your religious
background or doctrinal views. The only thing that will matter is, did you accept what Jesus did
for you and did you learn to love and trust him? Jesus said, 'clam the way and the truth and the
life. No one comes to the Father except through me." 第一，"你怎样对我的儿子耶稣基督？"神不会查问你的宗教背景或对教义的看法；唯一要紧的是，你曾否接受耶稣为你所做的一切？是否学习爱他并信靠他？耶稣说：“我就是道路、真理、生命；若不藉着我,没有人能到父那里去。”

Second, "What did you do with what I gave you?" What did you do with your life-all the gifts,
talents, opportunities, energy, relationships, and resources God gave you? Did you spend them on yourself, or did you use them for the purposes God made you for?" 第二，"你将我所给你的用来做什么？"你的一生做了什么？这包括神给你的恩赐、才干、机会、精力、关系和资源等等。你把它们全用在自己身上呢？抑或用在完成神为你预定的人生目的上？

Preparing you for these two questions is the goal of this book. The first question will determine
