When I was watching this movie, I was strickenby its closeness. I feel I am closely connected to it though it tells a storyhappened far away and long ago. Regardless of the differences in race and culture, something is universal, and the author has just caught it.

It is called human heart. When I saw theplump Ms Janice, she reminds me of someone in my neighborhood, who is alwaysjoyful and gossipy and sometime even annoying. When watching Mrs. Dashwoodcrying for injustice, handling the limited expense, and hurrying for herdaughter, I realize mothers’ universal features. Though Fanny Dashwood is likethe queen of princess white, and her vanity and arrogance are exaggerated (itmay also be true at that time), it is to satirize the money and fame oriented prevalenceof that time. As to the little girl, Margaret, her straight-mined and naughtycharacters are common to children in that age. I can even remember some of myanecdotes of these kinds: mentioning some unspeakable topics, making awkwardtruth straightforward, and playing with mud. But if not for her existence, themovie may not be so homely. So I am warmed by seeing it and even recalling itat this very moment.

As talking about characters, the twoheroines can never be dropped out. Related to its name, one of them stands forsense, and another sensibility. Whoever has seen this movie can easilydistinguish them. Elinor always keeps her sense, while Marianne always followsher true sensibility. They both have kind heart and a passion for love, butwith the background that people desire for higher status and money; they runand tumble their way in getting true love. The relationship between sense andsensibility displays itself in the sisters quarreling, misunderstanding, caringand finally approving. In fact, I think the author is telling us that sense andsensibility are just like sisters. The comparison between them in this movie isnot to prove which one is superior, but to reflect the worrying state of thatsociety: people pursue marriage to get higher status and money and regardlessof true love. The choices between sense and sensibility are deeply affected bysuch state, and none of them can escape the tragic ending as both of thesisters suffered a lot, one cried out and the other suppressed.

But with the delicate and fluent plot, theauthor gives them a happy ending. I think this is because the author believessuch state could be erased finally as people rise to follow their own mindsagainst it. But I have acknowledged that true love at that time is hard tomaintain according to this film, which made me cherish my freedom in love more.
