Taking Part-Time Jobs for University Students

Honorable Judges, Ladies and Gentlemen,

It’s my great honor to stand here and give you a speech titled “Taking Part-Time Jobs for University Students”.

First of all, I would like to begin with my personal experiences. During a period of my high school, I eagerly wanted to do something to show my independence. So I once tried to sell flowers and balloons in Valentine’s Day with friends; I even introduced myself to a Tea House, promising to design a network station for them in the exchange of hiring me. But they turned out later that I have waste lot of time and energy at the expense of my low scores in study.

As I entered university, I was aware of a phenomenon that a large amount of students including freshmen are actively taking part-time jobs. I think it’s mainly based on two reasons. One is because of their poor home environments, while the other is the willing to adapt to the competitive society as soon as possible. No matter what reasons it is, we can tell from the facts that many students skip classes, get tired of the campus life, and even put all their effort into part-time jobs in the end.

In my opinion, it’s not a very good choice to take part-time jobs so eagerly in the need of money. Because we all know that the origin purpose for us to enter university is increasing professional knowledge to make preparation for a life-time career, and besides it is the golden time for us learn while the resources like libraries and labs are for free. We should have the vision of development instead of focusing on the benefit at present.

Of course, some of you may against my opinion by setting evidence like “taking Part-Time Jobs in university is a kind of social activity and a connection between campus and society”, “we may learn the way to deal with society through getting a part-time job” or “I can get the fulfillment after I get the paying of my hard work.” These statements sound reasonable but not powerful enough.

In my eyes, the capability of university students is far from professional, so you can rarely get a part-time job related to your major especially for junior class students; and if you take a work that is at the cost of your labor, I’ve to say that what you have done is not equivalent to your pay. As is known to all that the value of labor in China is costless compared with developed countries like America or German.

Nonetheless, I advise University students to take some social activities in vacation instead of surfing the Internet at home feeling hollow. If you want to make money by doing small business, you’d better make a reference to some businessmen’s experiences rather than simply do it without any suggestions; if you want to take part in activities that is related to your major, you’d better choose an institute or a company rather than doing labor work in McDonnals or KFC; and if you’d like to be a volunteer, you can teach children or take care of old people through which you can learn the spirit of love and devotion. Thank you!
