春节将至，姚明在制作上海电视台某访谈节目时，透露自己对小时候对春节的印象就是“压岁钱”，姚明笑称：“我还记得我当年攒了压岁钱，到第二年夏天买冰棍吃，当时冰棍是1毛5分钱。我在体校每次训练完，都会固定去一个冷饮店去买冰棍，有一次摸来摸去只有1毛4分钱，于是一路找回去，就为了把丢掉的1分钱找回来。”
除了录制春节节目，姚明最近也出席了2012上海“蓝天下的至爱”慈善晚会。在晚会现场，市政协主席冯国勤代表上海市慈善基金会在晚会上向姚明授予“上海慈善大使”称号。
