An illegal armed group fired rocket-propelled grenades at a Myanmar's patrol boat and Chinese cargo ships in the midnight of Jan. 4, said the Thai water police.

The group launched two rocket-propelled grenades which are suspected to be M79 rocket-propelled grenades. One bomb fell into the water and the other exploded near the patrol boat.

As this incident occurred in the midnight the illegal group is hard to distinguish, the Myanmar's patrol boat didn’t fight back.

A total of five boats were caught in the incident- four Chinese cargo ships and a Myanmar's patrol boat. The Chinese ships haven’t been damaged.

The attack caused concerns about the shipping safety on the Mekong River, which has just resumed the navigation.

On Oct. 5, 2011, a Chinese cargo ship was attacked on the Mekong River and 13 members of the crew were killed.

Now the case is at the key stage of the trial.

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubumrung of Thailand said although the suspect denied involvement, but Thai police had sufficient evidence. Some Thai soldiers were involved in the case.
