核心提示：毛泽东对彭德怀说：“我替岸英向你求个情，你就收下他吧，岸英会讲俄语、英语，你到朝鲜，免不了跟苏联人、美国人打交道，让他担任翻译工作。同时也让他作为第一批志愿军战士，到战争中去锻炼。”

彭德怀看了看毛泽东，犹豫着说道：“主席，战场上枪弹无情……”

毛泽东说：“哪里的话，谁叫他是毛泽东的儿子！他不去谁还去？到战场上去锻炼自己有好处。我看，你就收留了他吧。”

毛岸英高兴地说：“彭叔叔，我本来就是军人，将来要在您的指挥下，做一个好兵。”

毛泽东在10月13日关于出兵抗美援朝的一份电报中指出：我们认为应当参战，必须参战，参战利益极大，不参战损害极大。

为什么这样说呢？一些专家分析认为：

全国胜利以后，国家百事待兴；一出兵，美帝国主义和蒋介石军队一起可能在我沿海捣乱。派飞机轰炸东北和其它沿海城市，甚至可能投原子弹，这是不利的方面。可是我们若不出兵，朝鲜被敌人占领，革命阵营就减少了一分反帝力量。敌人逼近鸭绿江，就形成和我国直接对抗的局面；从鸭绿江边到鞍山、沈阳、本溪等工业基地都在敌人飞机有效作战半径以内，这样美国空军可以寻找借口，直接威胁到我国辽南的工业基地，使我们不能安心搞建设。国家建设需要一个较好的工业基础。我国当时的重工业基地主要在东北。主要的钢铁基地是鞍山；机械工业基地是沈阳，那里有1000多家工厂，200多种机械工业产品；抚顺的煤，鸭绿江上的发电厂是其动力资源。敌人若占领朝鲜，就会更加得意忘形，向我国挑起事端，随时可以找到借口入侵，我们若不出兵，对朝鲜不利，对我国也不利。

敌人打到鸭绿江边，可能助长蒋介石反动派的气焰，国际反动势力也会更加兴风作浪，如果扩大战争，就威胁到东方和世界和平。

我们若单纯沿鸭绿江边组织防御，几百公里正面上，至少需要20～40万军队，还要相应的空军、海军及其它特种兵，旷日持久的对峙下去，军费开支很大，不可能安心搞建设。

我们出兵援助朝鲜，美帝向我们宣战怎么办呢？这个问题也进行过充分的讨论。我们支持战争的潜力和装备差。但是我军经过长期战争的考验，士气高昂，经验丰富，有打败优势装备敌人的一整套战法，可以弥补武器装备差的缺陷；早打，国家可能受到破坏。晚打，建设好了再打，固然武器装备可能有改善，但是多年的建设成果就可能毁于战争，许多有利条件可能转化为不利。同时我们加强了沿海的海岸防御，对空防御，敌人背水登陆和上陆作战，也讨不到多少便宜。

我们出兵，就有可能把战争限制在朝鲜范围，避免世界大战。以造成有利我国建设的国际环境，出兵给美帝一点教训，使它今后老实一点，不要到处伸手。出兵时机必须是赶在美帝进到鸭绿江之前。所以毛泽东在同一份电报中指出：我们采取上述政策（指出兵援助朝鲜）对中国，对朝鲜，对东方，对世界都极为有利；而我们不出兵，让敌人压至鸭绿江边，国际国内反动气焰嚣张，则对各方都不利，首先对东北不利，东北边防军将被吸住，南满电力将被控制。
