The Chinese Capitalist
This is my philosophy about everything: the most important thing is to live your life the way you want it. I don’t believe in a certain way of thinking for everybody. As long as you’re comfortable with the way you live and don’t feel that something has been taken from you, your life should be OK. Of course, I still feel the differences between how I grew up thinking and living and the life I have now.
There’s an expression in Chinese that says when you go somewhere, you must adopt the customs. If you have money, you’re a capitalist - that’s the way some people think. So, OK, I’m a capitalist. But I still feel as though whatever money I have in my pocket - the money I can see and use-is what I have. And it’s definitely all I need. The money I can’t see, the money in the bank or the numbers on a check, just gives me a feeling of success. I think most people with a lot of money are like that. No one making millions can say he really needs that money to live. That’s not what it means. It is a way to measure your worth in your job. If my next contract with the Rockets is for more money that what I’m making now, it’s because I’m worth more to them.
I still think of myself as a blue-collar worker. I sweat for my paycheck. If that makes me the best-known capitalist in China today, I don’t have a problem with that.
这是我关于一切事情的哲学:选择自己想要的方式生活是最重要的。我不相信有一种适用于每个人的思维方式和生活方式。只要你对你的生活方式满意，没有觉得你有什么东西被人拿走，你的生活应该算是可以的。我还是能感受到成长过程中的思考和生活方式，跟现在的生活之间的差距。
中国有句俗话:入乡随俗。当你有钱时，你就是一个资本主义者，这是某些人的想法。好吧，我就是个资本主义者，但我还是觉得我口袋里的钱，我能看见用才是我拥有的。这也肯定是我所需要的。我看不见的钱，银行里的钱或支票上的数字只是给我一种成就感。我想大多数有钱人也是如此。没有一个挣百万元的人会说，他真的需要这么多钱来生活。这不是财富的意义。财富是用来衡量你在工作中价值的一种方法。如果我和火箭队的下一个合同金额比我现在挣得更多，那是因为我对他们来说价值更大了。
我还是把自己当作一个蓝领工人。我得到的一切是我辛苦努力换来的。如果在今天的中国，我是最出名的资本主义者，我并不介意。
The Dream
我有太多太多的梦
我有个梦想，就是在我不打球的时候想在夏威夷有个家。我从来没有到过夏威夷，但我喜欢这个地名的发音。我的家会是两层楼，所有的家具都是北欧风格。我喜欢那种式样和颜色。它让我感到平静和舒适。这个房子会有个游泳池。这将是一个我可以常常感受宁静的地方。除了在我的梦里，我不记得上一次是什么时候我有过这样的感觉，彻底的宁静。
我的梦想是去中国的南海度假。在我还是个孩子的时候去过那儿，非常优美，但是那时候我没有钱，但有充足的时间。现在我有钱，却没有时间，这就是生活。
My dream is to have a home in Hawaii for when I’m not playing. I’ve never been to Hawaii, but I like the way it sounds. My house would have two floors, and all the furniture would be Scandinavian. I like the color of it. It makes me feel at peace and comfortable. The house would have a swimming pool, too. It would be a place where I can always feel quiet. I can’t remember the last time I felt like that, completely quiet, other than in my dreams.
My dream is to go to the South Sea of China on vacation. I went there once as a boy. It’s so beautiful. I had no money then lots of time. Now I have money but no time to go. That’s life.
