……The reasons for the introjection or "taking in" of the nagative,"bad" aspects of the mother are more complex. Possible motivation on factors include the fantasy of contolling the object by containing it with oneself, gaining a sence of mastery through repeated traumatic experiences with the object, and a preferece for a "bad" object over no object at all. Clinical expriece suggest that intence attachment to an internalized hostile object may also be connected with the yearning for more postive relationship with the object.
