6. I wonder how many of us started this morning
by looking in the mirror!

7. Most of us do that as a form of ritual.

8. We do it before or during our morning
ablutions.

9. Why do we look in the mirror?

10. So that we know we look our best before we
start the day.

11. Why do we want to look our best?

12. Because we want to present our best to our
friends and colleagues.

13. Because we want to present our best to the
world.

14. Because we want to present our best to all who
know us and those who don't.

15. During this Christmas season, I have been
talking to you about the meaning of Christmas.

16. What does talking about looking in the mirror
have to do with Christmas, you might ask?

17. On that very first Christmas day, God presented
us with His best self.

18. His Word became flesh.

19. What would you see if you could look into a
mirror that showed us our inner selves,

21. I’m talking about mirrors that show us. . . our
strengths and our weaknesses.

23. Mirrors that reveal. . . our virtues and our vices.

24. Mirrors that reveal. . . the truth about who we
are and what we think.

Mercifully, perhaps we don't have such a mirror.

25. Yet, the Bible said that the Word of God should
be to us like a mirror.

26. On that first Christmas day, . . .
在第一個聖誕日,
27. God in Jesus Christ focused such a mirror upon
himself.

28. On that first Christmas day, God was saying the

29. “In my Son I am revealing my inner being.”

30. “In my Son I am revealing my character.”

31. “In my Son I am revealing my glory.”

32. “In my Son I am revealing my love.”

33. “In my Son I am revealing my majesty.”

34. “In my Son I am revealing my mercy and

37. "The word became flesh."

41. "He is the image of the invisible God."

42. That is the essence of the Christian faith.

43. And that is why it is the stumbling block to so
many people.

44. How can God reveal himself in only one. . . and
one person alone. . . named Jesus Christ?
神怎能只在一位名叫耶穌基督的人身上彰顯
祂自己呢?
45. Some people say, God cannot become man.
有些人說,神不可能成為人。
46. Other people say, God is in everyone and
everyone is God.
其他人說,神在每一個人身上,因此每一個
人就是神。
47. Still others say, God is in the trees and in
nature. . . and nature is God.
還有其他人說,神在樹木和大自然當中,因
此大自然也就是神。
48. But God said:

49. “I became human flesh once. . . in the person
of my son.”
「我只一次道成肉身,就在我兒子身上」
50. “I revealed myself in one person and one
person alone. . . His name is Jesus.”
「我只藉著一個人向世人顯示我自己,祂的
名字就是耶穌。」
51. God looked in the mirror and said:
神看著鏡子,說:
52. “I reflected what I am like supremely in Jesus
of Nazareth.”
「鏡子裡反映出完全的我,就是拿撒勒人耶
穌。」
53. “I reflected my image once and for all in
Him.”
「在耶穌身上,我一次且永遠的顯示我的形
象。」
54. “I manifested myself, fully. . . only once in
Him.”
「就只在耶穌基督身上,我完全彰顯我自
己。」
55. God's image was given supernaturally in a
virgin's womb. . .
神的形像超然的藉著童貞女感孕,
56. so He could be fully God. . . and fully man.
這樣,祂全然是神,也全然是人。
57. He was like all men. . . but different from all men.
祂跟所有人一樣,同時又跟所有人不一樣。
58. He felt what you feel. . .
祂感受到你所感受的,
59. yet. . . he lived above His feelings.
但祂能超越祂的感受。
60. He was tempted like you are tempted . . .
祂也同樣受試探,像你一樣,
61. but He never sinned.
但祂從不犯罪。
62. He experienced what you experienced . . .
祂經歷到你所經歷的,
63. but was always victorious.
但祂總能得勝。
64. Isaiah said 700 years before Christ was born:
在基督誕生七百年前,先知以賽亞說:
65. "The virgin will conceive a son. His name is
Immanuel, God with us."

66. John said,. . .

67. "The Word became flesh."

69. "God was manifested in flesh."

70. Most people would be . . . happy to call Jesus a
great man.
大部份人都樂意承認耶穌是個偉大的人。
71. But if we treated Jesus as merely one of the
other heroes of goodness,
如果我們單單把耶穌看作偉人中的一個,
72. everybody would be happy with Christianity.
每個人都會對基督教有好感。
73. But God said:
但神說:
74. "This is my beloved son."
「這是我的愛子。」
75. Many people would be very receptive to the
Christian message. . .
if we merely declared that Jesus was great like
any other earthly leader.
如果我們單單傳揚耶穌就像世上其他偉大的
領袖一樣,很多人會樂意接納基督教。
76. But God said:
但神說:
77. “Jesus, is my Only begotten Son.”
「耶穌是我獨生兒子。」
78. He stands in His uniqueness above and beyond
all men.
祂超乎萬人之上,祂是獨一無二的。
79. Yet, He was a real man.
同時,祂也是有血有肉的人。
80. Why?

81. Because he existed with the Father before all of
creation.
祂在創世以前,已經與父神同在。
82. In John 8:58 He tells us of his pre-existing
power:

83. "Before Abraham was, I AM."

84. In John 17:5, He tells us about His pre-existing

88. John 1:3 tells us that: “Through him all things
were made and without him nothing was made
that was made.”

89. Colossians 1:16 tells us:

91. Can you imagine what that is?

92. God made all of the universe.
神創造宇宙中的一切。
93. In reality, God made all of the “universes” as scientists are discovering how vast space really is.
事實上,神創造整個宇宙,科學家不斷地發現宇宙實在是大得驚人。
94. Let me give you some examples
讓我給你舉些例子。
95. A star named Betelgeuse is 880 quadrillion
miles away.
有一顆名叫Betelgeuse 的星距離我們88 萬

96. The light that you see from Betelgeuse tonight
left there 150 years ago,

97. and has been moving at a speed of 186,000
miles a second.

98. It would take a jet liner traveling at the speed of

99. The God who made all of these galaxies, . . .

1. the God who upholds all of these galaxies, . . .

2. is the God who sent His son from heaven to be
born of a virgin.
就是差遣獨生兒子從天上而來,從童貞女而
生的那位神。
3. Jesus stands alone . . .in his purity and dignity
of character.
耶穌純潔而尊貴的品格,超群絕倫。
4. Jesus stands alone. . . in his holiness and
sinlessness.
耶穌的聖潔和完美無罪,超群絕倫。
5. Jesus stands alone. . . in impacting humanity for
good.
耶穌對人類美善的影響,超群絕倫。
6. Jesus stands alone. . . in the supremacy of his
splendor.
耶穌的榮耀尊貴,超群絕倫。
7. It would be ludicrous beyond measure to
compare him with other men in history.
若要把耶穌跟歷史上其他人作比較,實在是
極其荒謬。
8. All the great generals of history conquered with
power
歷史上所有偉大的將領以權力征服敵人。
9. Jesus conquered hearts with his love.
耶穌以愛征服人心。
10. The other great men of history. . . have invaded
lands far and wide.
歷史上其他的偉人,佔領廣闊的土地。
11. Jesus invaded whole societies with His light.
耶穌以真光普照整個社會。
12. Other great men in history. . . have ruled with
an iron fist.
歷史上其他偉人,以鐵腕統治。
13. Jesus rules hearts by the strength of His
compassion.
耶穌以憐憫為懷統治人心。
14. Other great men of history have changed
nations by terror and arms.
歷史上其他偉人,以恐怖和武力改變國家。
15. Jesus changed hearts and nations by the sheer
force of his compelling love.
耶穌那滿有威力、難以抗拒的愛,改變國
家、扭轉人心。
16. Other great men in history. . . have compelled
the allegiance of their subjects through the use
of force.
歷史上其他偉人,以武力迫使人民效忠。
17. Jesus receives allegiance voluntarily and
willingly.
耶穌贏得人們心悅誠服的效忠。
18. Other great men of history. . . have acted
partially and unfairly.
歷史上其他偉人,處事不公,有所偏袒。
19. Jesus is always fair. . . and just.
耶穌永遠以公平正直行事。
20. John said:
約翰說:
21. "The word became flesh."
「道成肉身。」
22. Paul said:
保羅說:
23. " God was manifested in the flesh."
「神在肉身顯現」
24. Socrates taught for 40 years, . . .
蘇格拉底教學四十年,…
25. Plato taught for 50 years, . . .
柏拉圖教學五十年,…
26. and Aristotle taught for 40 years.
而亞里斯多德則教學四十年,…
27. But Jesus taught only for 3 years.
但耶穌基督只教了三年而已。
28. Yet, the influence of Jesus' 3 years of
teaching . . .
可是,耶穌基督三年教學的影響
29. infinitely transcends the impact left by the
combined 130 years of teaching from these
great philosophers in history.
比起這三位哲學大師加起來共一百三十年的
教學,更具深遠的影響。
30. John said:
約翰說:
31. "The word became flesh."
「道成肉身。」
32. Paul said:
保羅說:
33. "God was manifested in the flesh."
「神在肉身顯現」
34. Jesus painted no pictures.
耶穌沒有畫過任何圖畫。
35. Yet, some of the finest paintings the world’s
greatest painters received their inspiration from
him.
可是,世上有些最傑出畫家的最優秀作品,
是從耶穌那兒得著靈感的。
36. Jesus wrote no poetry.
耶穌沒有寫過任何詩篇。
37. Yet, scores of the world's greatest poets were
inspired by him.
可是,世上有些最偉大詩人的最佳詩詞,是
因耶穌而產生靈感的。
38. Jesus composed no music.
耶穌沒有創作過任何樂章。
39. Yet, many of the world’s greatest musicians all
reached their highest achievement when they
composed and sang in His praise.
可是,許多世上最卓越音樂家的精心創作,
都是頌讚耶穌的樂曲。
40. John said:
約翰說:
41. "The word became flesh."
「道成肉身。」
42. Paul said:
保羅說:
43. "God was manifested in the flesh."
「神在肉身顯現」
44. Not only does the evidence of His divinity
scream loud and clear,
不單是祂的神性清晰可見,
45. but also the absoluteness of his sovereignty is
indisputable.
祂具有絕對的主權,也是無可爭議的。
46. He said of his life:
祂說到祂的生命:
47. “I have power to lay down my life... and I
have power to take it again.”
「我有權柄捨了我的生命,也有權柄取回
來。」
48. No one else ever claimed that!
從來沒有人作那樣的宣稱!
49. No one ever tried that.
從來沒有人那樣嘗試。
50. Yet, Jesus declared it.
可是,耶穌這樣宣告。
51. And He did it,
而且祂實行了,
52. when he willingly died on the cross to pay for
the penalty for your sins and mine.
當祂甘心地死在十字架上,為你和我的罪付
上代價。
53. He. . . with authority and power dismissed His
own spirit.
祂帶著權柄和能力捨棄自己的生命。
54. And then on the third day. . .
然后在第三天,
55. He assumed His spirit once again on
resurrection morning.
那天早上祂從死裡復活。
56. No one else has ever done that!
從來沒有人能作這樣的事!
57. Ever since the time Jesus was incarnate in
human flesh. . .
自從耶穌道成肉身以來,
58. people could not ignore him.
人不能漠視祂的存在。
59. They either submit to Him. . . or resist Him.
他們要不是順服祂,就是拒絕祂。
60. They either receive the eternal life that He
gives. . or condemn themselves eternally.
要不就得著祂賜的永生,或是永遠沉淪滅
亡。
61. They either accept His authority. . . or they
rebel against Him.
他們要不是俯伏在祂的權柄下,就是叛逆
祂。
62. They either crown Him sovereign over their
lives. . . or run away as spiritual fugitives and
die eternally lost.
要不就讓祂掌管他們的生命,或是作個靈性
上的逃犯而永遠失喪。
63. Not only were the claims of His divinity
clear, . . .
不單是祂的神性清晰可見,
64. not only was His absolute sovereignty
indisputable, . . .
不單是祂絕對的主權無可爭議,
65. but also, the power of His forgiveness is
unprecedented.
還有,祂赦罪的力量是空前絕后的。
66. In Matthew 9:6:
馬太福音第九章第六節:
67. before He cured the paralyzed man, . . .
在耶穌醫治那癱子以前,
68. Jesus said to him:
耶穌對他說:
69. “Your sins are forgiven.”
「你的罪赦了。」
70. No one ever has ever come to the Lord Jesus
Christ in repentance. . . and has not received
forgiveness.
從來沒有人來到主耶穌基督面前認罪悔改,
卻得不著赦免的。
71. He alone as the God/Man could forgive and
save.
只有祂既是神又是人,才能赦免人的罪並拯
救人。
72. John said:
約翰說:
73. “God's Word became flesh.”
「道成肉身。」
74. Paul said:
保羅說:
75. “In Jesus Christ God was manifested in the
flesh.”
「耶穌基督就是神在肉身顯現。」
76. Not only is his divinity clear, . . .
不單是祂的神性清晰可見,
77. not only is his sovereignty absolute, . . .
不單是祂絕對的主權無可爭議,
78. not only is his power of forgiveness
unprecedented, . . .
不單是祂赦罪的力量空前絕后,
79. but finally:
最后:
80. He is the only one who can satisfy our deepest
needs.
祂是那唯一能滿足我們最深需要的。
81. If you look at nature, it is beautiful and
magnificent . . .
如果你觀看大自然,它是多么美麗,令人嘆
為觀止,
82. but it gives no answer to your faith.
卻不能給予信仰的答案。
83. If you study history, you will find it
interesting . . .
如果你研究歷史,覺得津津有味,
84. yet confusing and full of contradictions.
同時又感到迷惑並充滿矛盾。
85. But turn to Jesus Christ and you will hear him
saying to a weary and restless mankind;
但是當你轉向耶穌基督,你會聽到祂對疲倦
而煩躁不安的人說;
86. "Come unto me all who are weary and heavy
laden and I will give you rest."
「凡勞苦擔重擔的人,可以到我這裡來,我
就使你們得安息。」
87. The reason the Lord Jesus Christ is as relevant
today. . . as He was in the day of His earthly
life, . . .
今天主耶穌基督,和昔日祂在世上時,同樣
的與世人息息相關,
88. is because He is God's Word.
因為祂就是神的道。
89. He is God's final expression;
祂就是神最后的彰顯。
90. And God's word can never be outdated or
become obsolete.
而且神的話永不會過時,也不會作廢。
91. He is indestructible. . . and indispensable.
祂是不朽的, 也是不可或缺的。
92. He is always available. . . and accessible.
祂時常在我們身邊,我們也可以隨時來到祂
的跟前。
93. He is the center of history. . . and the
fulfillment of all prophecies.
祂是歷史的中心,也實現了所有先知的預
言。
94. He is the dynamic power of all authority.
祂是所有權威的動力。
95. He is the intrinsic wealth of all spiritual values.
祂本身就是所有屬靈的財富。
96. He is the realistic expression of the Godhead.
祂是神真確的顯示。
97. He is the image of the invisible God.
祂是那肉眼看不見的神的形象。
98. He is unbounded, unlimited, and unconfined.
祂不受任何束縛、限制和拘束。
99. Isn't that incredible beyond words?
那真是非語言文字所能表達的!

1. God, who has the universe in the palms of His
hand . . .
統管整個宇宙的神,
2. wants to befriend you and save you.
祂要跟你和好,並要拯救你。
3. Will you say “Yes”, to Jesus?
你會對祂說「願意」嗎?
