西蒙尼指出，多年前，有人认为日本已经超越了美国，欧洲也被认为是在争夺全球经济霸权。如今，任何这样的说法都近乎荒谬。
不过，西蒙尼文中提到，美国经济短期内应该很糟糕，中期也不容乐观，但美国经济弹性十足，良好的教育、创新的精神以及移民带来的活力，使得美国区别于世界上任何一个其它国家，对美国的长期前景，他还是比较乐观的。
如果中国继续保持现在的发展速度，那唯一的问题就是什么时候人民币将成为储备货币。最有可能的情况是在25年之后，到时美元将不会成为唯一的储备货币。 罗格夫曾说，欧洲发生债务危机后，首先想到的是向中国求助，而非美国。因为他们知道，美国经济同样病得不轻，问题一团糟。在50年，或者75年之后中国将成为全球第一大经济体，中国将超越美国，并不断地富强。
同时，在50年或75年之后，人民币将取代美元成为国际货币。如今，罗格夫仍然坚持这一观点。并且认为可能不需要这么长时间，可能只需要25年时间。
西蒙尼也认为，毫无疑问，如果中国继续保持现在的发展速度，那唯一的问题就是什么时候人民币将成为储备货币。最有可能的情况是在25年之后，到时美元将不会成为唯一的储备货币。
他更强调，接下来的60至70年里，中国如果能够保持5%的增长率，也将远远超过美国和欧洲。
