nothing but意为“只是;仅仅”,相当于only。
The big question was who is wearing what today.
45.A。 A voice said to me,...
be scared of sth意为“害怕某事”;be unaware of是“不知道,没察觉”,不合句意。
51.B。pass out是“昏迷;失去知觉”之意,由上一句的it all come to a head,此句意为“一天在台上演戏的时候,突然晕头转向,昏倒了”。
53.B。that state of mind意为“那种精神状态”,a state of mind是习惯搭配,state表示“状态;状况”。

When the lazy days of summer arrive and the schedule is packed with swimming, camp, and family vacations, it can be a challenge to find time for learning. But kids' reading skills don't have to grow cold once school's out. Here are some ways to make reading a natural part of their summer fun:
Explore your library. Visit your local library to check out books and magazines that your kids haven't seen before. Many libraries have summer reading programs, book clubs, and reading contests for even the youngest borrowers. With a new library card, a child will feel extra grown-up checking out books.
Make your own books. Pick one of your family's favorite parts of summer-whether it's baseball, ice cream, or the pool-and have your child draw pictures of it or cut out pictures from magazines. Stick the pictures onto paper to make a booklet and write text for it. When you're done, read the book together. Reread it whenever you like!
Keep in touch. Kids don't have to go away to write about summer vacation. Even if your family stays home, they can send postcards to tell friends and relatives about their adventures. Ask a relative to be your child's pen pal and encourage them to write each week.
Keep up the reading habits. Even if everything else changes during the summer, keep up the reading routines around your house. Read with your kids every day-whether it's just before bedtime or under a shady tree on a lazy afternoon. And don't forget to take a book to the beach! Just brush the sand off the pages -it's no sweat!

People who use their left hands are just starting to get better treatment. But why they get all these bad names in the first place? One reason may be that there are not as many left-handed people as there are right-handed people. There is one left-handed person for every five right-handed ones. People who are different are often thought to be wrong. But attitudes do seem to be changing. Fair-minded right-handed people are finally starting to give left-handed people a hand.

D. Fair-minded right-handed people are starting to give up using their left hands

A. left-handed people have been treated poorly
B. the number of the left-handed people is larger than that of right-handed people
C. right-handed people are much cleverer than left-handed people
D. left-handed people are less smart but hardworking
63. Which of the following is NOT right, according to the article?
A. At one time, left-handed people were forced to use their right hands.
B. Left-handed people today are being treated better than those in the past.
C. There are not as many left-handed people as there are right-handed people today.

Among all the fast growing science and technology, the research of human genes, or biological engineering as people call it, is drawing more and more attention now. Sometimes it is a hot topic discussed by people.
The greatest thing that gene technology can do is to cure serious diseases that doctors at present can almost do nothing with, such as cancer and heart disease. Every year, millions of people are murdered by these two killers. And to date, doctors have not found an effective way to cure them. But if the gene technology is applied, not only these two diseases can be cured completely, bringing happiness and more living days to the patients, but also the great amount of money people spend on curing their diseases can be saved, therefore it benefits the economy as well. In addition, human life spans (寿命) can be prolonged.
Gene technology can help people to give birth to more healthy and clever children. Some families, with the English imperial family being a good example, have hereditary(遗传的) diseases. This means their children will for sure have the family disease, which is a great trouble for these families. In the past, doctors could do nothing about hereditary diseases. But gene technology can solve this problem perfectly. The scientist just need to find the wrong gene and correct it, and a healthy child will be born.
Some people are worrying that the gene research can be used to manufacture human beings in large quantities. In the past few years, scientists have succeeded in cloning a sheep, therefore these people predict that human babies would soon be cloned. But I believe cloned babies will not come out in large quantities, for most couples in the world can have babies in the very normal way. Of course, the governments must take care to control gene technology.
68. What does “these two killers” in the second paragraph refer to?
A. Gene technology and another treatment of the two diseases.
B. The two murderers who killed the cloned baby.
C. The two diseases of cancer and heart disease.
D. Hereditary diseases and cancer.
69. What's the main idea of the third paragraph?
A. How gene technology can be applied in the field of treating hereditary diseases.
B. Gene technology can be used to clone human babies.
C. Gene technology can help people to give birth of a baby.
D. Gene technology can help the English imperial family out.
70.In what way gene technology can help to treat hereditary diseases?
A. Using gene technology, the people with hereditary diseases can have more living days.
B. Using gene technology, scientist finds the wrong gene and corrects it.
C. Using gene technology, human babies can be cloned.
D. Doctors can cure cancer and heart disease with the help of gene technology.
71.What is the main purpose of writing this passage?
A. Expressing the writer's idea that gene technology will benefit people.
B. Telling people the advantages of gene technology.
D. Explaining that gene technology will also do harm to the humanity.
68.C。第二段...such as cancer and heart disease. Every year, millions of people are murder ed by these two killers.
69.A。 Gene technology can help people to give birth to more healthy and clever children.
But gene technology can solve this problem perfectly. The scientist just need to find the wrong gene and correct it, and a healthy child will be born.

Five years ago, David Smith wore an expensive suit to work every day. “I was a clothes addict,” he jokes. “I used to carry a fresh suit to work with me so I could change if my clothes got wrinkled.” Today David wears casual clothes-khaki pants and sports shirts-to the office. He hardly ever wears a necktie. “I'm working harder than ever,” David says, “and I need to feel comfortable.”
More and more companies are allowing their office workers to wear casual clothes to work in the United States. The change from formal to casual office wear has been gradual. In the early 1990s, many companies allowed their employees to wear casual clothes on Friday(but only on Friday). This became known as “dress-down Friday” or “casual Friday”. “What started out as an extra one-day-a-week benefit for employees has really become an everyday thing,” said business consultant Maisly Jones.
Why have so many companies started allowing their employees to wear casual clothes? One reason is that it's easier for a company to attract new employees if it has a casual dress code. “A lot of young people don't want to dress up for work,” says the owner of a software company, “so it's hard to hire people if you have a conservative dress code.” Another reason is that people seem happier and more productive when they are wearing comfortable clothes. In a study conducted by Levi Strauss and Company, 85 percent of employers said that they believe that casual dress improves employee morale. Only 4 percent of employers said that casual dress has a negative impact on productivity. Supporters of casual office wear also argue that a casual dress code helps them save money. “Suits are expensive, if you have to wear one every day,” one person said. “For the same amount of money, you can buy a lot more casual clothes.”
72. David Smith refers to himself as having been “a clothes addict” , because ______.
A. he often wore khaki pants and a sports shirt
B. he couldn't stand a clean appearance
C. he wanted his clothes to look neat all the time
D. he didn't want to spend much money on clothes
73. According to this passage, which of the following statements is false?
A. Many employees don't like a conservative dress code.
B. Comfortable clothes make employees more productive.
C. A casual clothes code is welcomed by young employees.
D. All the employers in the US are for casual office wear.
74. According to this passage, which of the following statements is true?
B. Dress-down has become an everyday phenomenon since the early 1990s.
C. “Dress-down Friday” was first given as a favor from employers.
D. Many workers want to wear casual clothes to impress people.
75. In this passage, the following advantages of casual office wear are mentioned in the passage except ______.
A. saving employees' money
B. making employees more attractive
C. improving employees' motivation
D. making employees happier

Like dogs, birds breathe in air and get oxygen to supply body tissues, while fish breathing depends on getting oxygen from water through parts of its body.
However, bird respiration(呼吸),is different from dogs and is much more efficient than that of other animals. The lungs take up just 2 percent of a bird 's body volume, yet the bird quickly takes in large amouts of oxygen and quickly removes waste and excess heat.
There are actually two respiration systems, internal and external.
The external respiration system uses the lungs and a series of air sacs(袋囊)distributed throughout the body so that the oxygen supply is in direct communication with body parts. Oxygen is taken in and exchanged for carbon dioxide wasted in the blood; then the carbon dioxide is moved out, so far, much like dogs.
However, in an important difference, the air flow in a bird is one way, through a series of tubes and cells, rather than two ways, in and out of the lungs, as it is in dogs. A constant stream of air goes through lungs and then is channeled through the complex system of air sacs, which also help remove excess heat, as well as through hollow bones. The gases are then channeled forward through the lungs again, then through more air sacs. Finally ending up in the windpipe, and are expelled from the body.
Meanwhile, the bird's great oxygen needs are also handled by the internal breathing system. The oxygen, stored primarily in body fat tissues, is burned through the process of cell respiration. This process produces both muscular energy and heat.
How does a bird breathe?
