Once upon a time, there was a large mountainside, where an eagle’s (鹰) nest rested. The eagle’s nest contained four large eagle eggs. One day an earthquake rocked the mountain causing one of the eggs to roll down the mountain, to a chicken farm, located in the valley below. The chickens knew that they must protect and care for the eagle’s egg, so an old hen volunteered to nurture and raise the large egg.
One day, the egg hatched and a beautiful eagle was born. Sadly, however, the eagle was raised to be a chicken. Soon, the eagle believed he was nothing more than a chicken. The eagle loved his home and family, but his spirit cried out for more. While playing a game on the farm one day, the eagle looked to the sky above and noticed a group of mighty eagles soaring in the sky. “Oh,” the eagle cried, “I wish I could soar like those birds.” The chickens roared with laughter, “You can not soar with those birds. Your are a chicken and chickens do not soar.”
The eagle continued staring at his real family up above, dreaming that he could be with them. Each time the eagle let his dreams be known, he was told it couldn’t be done. That is what the eagle learned to believe. The eagle, after time, stopped dreaming and continued to live his life like a chicken. Finally, after a long life as a chicken, the eagle passed away.

Have you ever wondered what kind of music kids across the Pacific Ocean are listening to? Well, nearly 6,000 teens have taken part in a Teens & Music study, made by USA Weekend Magazine. And the results show what type of music is hot.
It comes as no surprise that hip-hop and rap are the most popular types of music among American teenagers. They began in mid-1970s. Hip-hop and rap are well-known for the break-dance that goes with them. Ermine is among the most popular rappers to hit US. Although about a third of teens in the US showed their support for Ermine, still many said that his music was so noisy that they couldn’t listen to it.
Pop music, such as Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys, has always suited the tastes of the general public. It continues to enjoy support among teens and is the second most popular after rap.
Third is rock’n’roll music with exciting dance beats that speak loudly of social problems. The melodies(旋律) are led by electric guitars. Rock became popular in the US in the early 1950s.
The study also shows that jazz is least loved by American teens. It developed in the latter part of the 19th century. Jazz tends to be the type of music that people enjoy more as they get older.
35. Which of the following developed the earliest according to the text?
A. Hip-hop and rap.      B. Break-dance.          C. Rock.    D. Jazz.

When Susan in Germany goes to get some milk from the fridge, she has trouble getting past the fridge door. But it’s not because of any physical obstruction(障碍). It’s usually because the PC monitor in her fridge’s door has told her that a new e-mail message has arrived. Susan and her husband are taking part in a six-month trial(试用) supported by a German company . They hope to show that computers can be put to more daily use than most people think.
