More than 60 percent of Chinese bankers said that the "restoration of the prudent monetary policy and the restriction on credit scales" as well as the "uncertainties in economic growth and inflation" are their current greatest concerns about business operations, according to the "Chinese Bankers Survey 2011" released by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the China Banking Association. More than 50 percent of bankers said that the uncertainty in future macroeconomic policies and the changes in supervisory policies have posed considerable pressure on the operations of banks.

In terms of the loans concerning local government financing platforms, 70 percent of bankers surveyed said that the gap between local governments' fiscal strength and their debt scales will bring default risks, and 46 percent said that their banks will strictly limit the scales of related loans.

Some 26 percent of bankers said that they will scale back on lending concerning local government financing platforms. Furthermore, more than 50 percent of bankers said that their efforts to regulate loans related to local government financing platforms have been dampened by local government for the latter's lack of the understanding of the regulatory work. Experts suggested that local government should create multiple financing channels.

According to the survey, bankers believe that the financial environment should be improved in the following aspects: 72.2 percent of bankers surveyed selected social credit environment; 48.2 percent, local government public service levels; 38.3 percent, legal environment; 32.5 percent, economic foundation; 30.2 percent, supervisory environment, and 30.2 percent, the development of intermediary institutions.
